Sunday Funday: It's Emmy Time!

Hello Emmys...

Well it's that time again Emmy Sunday. Since most of us spent the last year and 1/2 watching a lot of television I am willing to bet there are many of you out there who have seen most, or all of the nominated shows.

Translation: You have favorites in every category.

Here are my top two favorite picks for today's to do: Kate Winslet Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Mare of Easttown and Jean Smart Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks.

My top two faves are pretty much sure things. What are yours? Check out the full list of Emmy Nominations below via Variety,

Michael's Musings

And The Oscar Goes To...
Michael Shinafelt
"I never really saw anything grow before. How tiny those seeds were and yet they know they were supposed to be lettuces." - Marilyn Monroe, The Misfits

While Marilyn Monroe never won a Best Actress Oscar she did in my mind for The Misfits. Written by her former husband Arthur Miller and Directed by the great John Houston. Marilyn Monroe etched a portrait in my soul as Roslyn Taber

Even though she won a Golden Globe for Some Like It Hot (she was brilliant) Oscar gold always eluded her.

Didn't we all fancy a dream in passing when we were young of winning one? But of course we did! Moving on as we got older and realized being an Academy Award Winning star might not necessarily be out path?

With the arrival of the big event Sunday this weeks column is a tribute, trivia and salute to the dreamer in us all!

Oscar Winner for Funny Girl Barbara Streisand had her dog cloned. Hey Barbara, did you not see Pet Semetary?!

Kate Winslet keeps her Oscar in the bathroom

I've held the Oscar that Dan Jinks won as Producer for Best Picture, American Beauty

"As a little kid I lived in the projects, and you're the people I watched. You're the people wanted—made me want to be an actor. I'm so proud to be here. I'm proud to be an actor and I'm gonna keep on acting. And thank you so much" Whoopi Goldberg,Best Supporting Actress for Ghost

The first Academy Awards ceremony was held in 1929 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

Meryl Streep is the most nominated in the Best Actress category for an Oscar, clocking in at 17 nominations

Jack Nicholson is the most nominated actor with 12 under his belt

My dream was always to win an Oscar for portraying someone truly evil

"When I was little my mother said, "I want you to be something." And I guess this represents twenty-three or twenty-four years of my work, and I've never won anything before from my peers. I'm really, really happy" Cher, Best Actress for Moonstruck
Margot Robbie
My personal pic for Best Actress this year? Margot Robbie for I, Tonya

Who could ever forget Sally Field's battle cry:  "I can't deny the fact that you like me. Right now, you like me!"

Remember that time when 72 year old Jack Palance won his Best Supporting Actor Oscar for City Slickers and did one armed push-ups on stage? I do.

Weirdest Oscar winning song? It's Hard Out There For a Pimp by 3 6 Mafia from Hustle & Flow

Strange Best Supporting Actor Nominee: Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder. He's great! But think about it, not too much.

And the Oscar goes to...find out this Sunday!

Turn And Face The Strange...

Believe It, Or Not
Justin Timberlake & Kate Winslet
When I was younger I thought nothing could surprise me. Yeah, you think you have seen it all when you reach your twenties. Well that's a load of BS! That is one of the joys of being fifty you realize life is always evolving and there is always something that will catch you off guard that you never expected.

This brings me to today's post. Who would have ever thought one would see Kate Winslet & Justin Timberlake acting opposite each other in a movie???

In Woody Allen's world, which has a certain bent to it, now you will. The photo above is of the odd couple bouncing creative energy off one another while shooting Allen's latest untitled opus in Queens, New York.

File this under: Wonders Never Cease.

Jealous Much? Kate Winslet

My Daughter Is So Jealous!
Kate Winslet & Liam Hemsworth

Apparently, in the world according to Kate Winslet. Her daughter Mia was quite envious that she got to film steamy sex scenes with Liam Hemsworth for her latest film The Dressmaker.

As Kate puts it: “Liam is a lovely, lovely guy, much is made of how he looks and he’s physically extremely beautiful but he’s a fabulous chap and was really up for mucking in with the rest of us,” she muses “But my daughter Mia was extremely jealous, along with all of her friends.”

She also reveals that she would not even know who Liam's character was in The Hunger Games if it wasn't for daughter Mia.

Some girls have all the luck, some guys do too!

Kate Winslet Is An Apple Head

Apple Head
Kate Winslet
One of my favorite actresses in this life or any other I  may be reincarnated in, is the amazing Kate Winslet!

I first saw her in Peter Jackson's amazing film Heavenly Creatures and well you know, all I could think of is: Will you Kiss Me Kate?

Since we are turning to face the change of summer into fall, the mighty Winslet will be back in a movie based on the life of Steve Jobs, called oddly enough: Steve Jobs, go figure...

Who will she be portraying? Why Apple's first head of marketing, Joanna Hoffman, that's who.

As a side note, or perhaps a full frontal in your face note, Michael Fassbender will play Apple founder and head Steve Jobs, naturally.

Head Jobs, now there is an interesting combo.

Steve Jobs hits theaters on October 9th!
