Michael's Musings

Turn & Face The Strange
Michael Shinafelt
Hello lovely beings! This week it's time we turn to face the strange. In both ways literally, strange is good when it is inclusive, but when it is exclusive, well you know how that goes, right "President" Trump.

Yeah, I wanted to use a few more choice words, but I chose to take the high road.

OK, enough of my preaching, here we go!!!

Anyone watching Taboo on FX? I am, I like it! It also doesn't hurt that Tom Hardy is
H-O-T!

Immigration Ban? Where the fuck did you come from Dumpster????

I want whatever meds Winona Ryder is on,

Try not to be a Twatsicle

Eat Cheeseburgers & Make Love

I saw LeAnn Rimes this past weekend with Ken Phillips, amazing! She closed with a cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, I still hear it in my head.

Sometimes you have to GROI! Get Rid Of It.

Hung with Margaret Cho on the set of Fashion Police this past week. Yeah, I know how to have a good time.

Come hither I like to lick, a lot!

"Beauty and femininity are ageless" - Marilyn Monroe

What kind of a world do we live in when auto-correct tries to change something you wrote into Blake Lively???

I'm eating healthier and working out, aren't you happy?

Yeah, that is enough. Done.

TBT: Truth Or Dare

Truth Or Dare Turns 25!
Madonna
Released in 1991 Madonna's Truth or Dare caused quite the ruckus. It was made up of concert footage and captured what went on behind the scenes during her Blonde Ambition Tour.

The ruckus part? The behind the scenes footage of course! It featured all sorts of taboo content that was not really in the forefront of mainstream media consciousness at the time. Such as boy on boy action, frank discussions about sex and disclosures about ones love life...OK, it addressed sex in an open and provocative manner, which managed to cause a media frenzy surrounding it.

I loved it, and found it not only a brilliant piece of filmmaking, but also marketing. There had been nothing like it at the time and it was a liberating experience for this Madonna fan when he saw it at the theater two times before it hit video.

Cut to 25 years later. It had an anniversary screening for 400 fans at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, where Madonna made a surprise appearance much to her fan's delight!

Also on hand was the films director, Alek Keshishian

Does it hold up today you ask? I have seen the film not too long ago, while it is still entertaining the shock value it once had has faded and become the norm for our chaotic society. It is a film of place and time and it is an important piece of pop culture whose influence vividly has it's fingerprints all over what's going on in entertainment today.

Throwback Thursday indeed.

Sandy Zacky "Witchy Woman"

I Put A Spell On You
Sandy Zacky
'Cause it's witchcraft, wicked witchcraft, And although, I know, it's strictly taboo".... - Witchcraft

Everyone needs a resident chanteuse. Sandy Zacky is it, here on Entertain Me. Every Halloween we celebrate her rendition of the classic chestnut Witchcraft.

Passed through many singers throughout the years, most notably one of the masters, Frank Sinatra.

While she is not a master, Sandy is a maestra, the feminine version of master, of Witchcraft

I have seen Sandy with a "Y" not "E" perform this song and many others, live over the years.

Guess what peeps she is getting ready to go live, and record again in 2016!

What a treat!

SHOWTIME® PRESENTS MARGARET CHO: psyCHO
Stand-Up Comedy Event from Emmy® And Grammy® Nominated Comedian Margaret Cho to Premiere
Friday, September 25th At 9 PM ET/PT on SHOWTIME

Come September 25th it will be ChoTime on Showtime - how's that for a titty twister?!

SHOWTIME will debut MARGARET CHO: psyCHO, the latest show from renowned three-time Grammy and Emmy nominated comedian Margaret Cho on September 25th at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Filmed in March at the Gramercy Theater in New York City, Cho returns to the stage in front of a live audience in this provocative and hilarious performance.

Never one to shy away from a difficult or taboo topic, Cho considers nothing off limits. The witty comedian keeps her audience laughing with her notorious observational humor and candid commentary on her personal life. From singlehood to Boko Haram to female empowerment, Cho tackles difficult subjects with sensitivity and razor sharp insight. Part of the show includes touching tributes to her “father in comedy,” Robin Williams and her “mother in comedy,” Joan Rivers. A pioneer in the comedy world, Cho doesn’t take anything for granted in this eclectic stand-up routine.

“The audience at my shows don’t necessarily consider themselves traditional comedy fans,” says Cho. “I seem to be a secure alternative for people who don’t think they’re being represented in society. They come because my point of view satisfies a lot of what needs to be said out there, and that makes me really proud.”

From Clownery Productions Inc. and Levity Productions, MARGARET CHO: psyCHO is executive produced by Margaret Cho, Judi Brown-Marmel, Norman Aladjem, Neil Sheridan, Reg Tigerman, Sarah J. Martin, Stacy Mark and Heidy Vaquerano.

                                                      "Hidden Hills" Trailer

Synopsis of "Hidden HIlls"

1960's in Hidden Hills, California. A handsome real estate agent, Drew Drake finds himself in a secret relationship that has become an overbearing lie. For seven years he has secretly been dating and living with his business partner Whitey Ford. None of his friends know. The issue isn't that they're gay. Nearly everyone in Hidden Hills is gay. (Straight people are the ones hiding in the closet.) The problem is that both Drew and Whitey are Caucasian.

No one dates the same race! It's a social taboo. Will Drew Drake have the nerve to buck societal norms and come clean about his love for Whitey Ford? Can two white men admit their love for each other and take their relationship to the next level – marriage?

Starring Ted Trent and Tim O'Leary, Hidden Hills is a comedy that looks at race, sexuality, aging, and weight issues, flipping the world upside down in a 72 minute feature film that mimics the classic styling of Rock Hudson and Doris Day movies. Also featuring up and coming Hollywood talent including Joy Sudduth(Criminal Minds), Wendy Shapero (Robot Chicken), and Chris Fennessy (Zoey 101) and a performance of an original song by Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Go's. The movie was written and directed by Dan Steadman (Red Lodge) whose first project Jesus People: The Movie is to be released in early 2014. It features Wendi McLendon-Covey (Bridesmaids) and Academy Award® winner Octavia Spencer (The Help).

The "Hidden Hills" are alive, indeed!
